Standing By Tammy
Wynette: The Donna Chapel Story,
is the story of the earliest years
of Tammy Wynette’s legendary country music career. Narrated by the Donna Chapel character and told from her
point of view, we begin with a young Virginia Wynette Pugh making her first
appearance on the Country Boy Eddie Show on WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama. From there, we follow her move to
Nashville and her marriage to Don Chapel (Donna’s father) and the creation of
the “Tammy Wynette” persona.
Donna Chapel was a young
fourteen year old girl at the time Tammy and Don married and she soon became
Tammy’s first backup singer. As
the story is told, you get to watch Tammy form her own singing style and
signature stage presence.
This work was presented as a
workshop piece to the audiences at Renaissance Theatre in Huntsville earlier in
2011 to rave reviews and soldout houses. In fact, the show became so popular that it was held over for five
additional weekends to accommodate ticket requests. Erin and Charelle are hypnotic in their performances as
Donna and Tammy. To use an already
overly-used phrase, “you’d think they were channelling Donna and Tammy while on
stage.”

Wynette: The Donna Chapel Story is produced by Renaissance Theatre Productions in Huntsville and is being
brought to the stage in Alabama City by means of an historic theatre partnership
formed between Theatre of Gadsden and Renaissance Theatre Productions. We look forward to more Theatre
Exchange in the coming months!

$12.00 general seating. Discounted
tickets for students with valid school-issued identification and senior
citizens may be purchased for $10.00. You may also purchase tickets at the door of the theatre one hour prior
to curtain.
